Person With Inferior Ability Vol.4-Afterword

Afterword

I’m Tasuro.

Thank you very much for picking up Person with An Inferior Ability Returning From Demon World , Volume 4.

It’s summer already. Please take good care of yourselves and stay healthy.

Actually, while I was writing this volume 4, the coronavirus was raging, so I imagine that many of my readers, not just myself, may have been going through some anxious and uncertain times.

I sincerely pray that peaceful, ordinary days will return to all of you as soon as possible. I truly hope that by the time this book is published, things will have returned to normal.

Now then, as for Person with An Inferior Ability Returning From Demon World , the second arc, set in Miramar, has come to an end.

For me, it is deeply moving to have been able to bring the second arc into the world.

As I ask every time, what did you think of it?

Nothing makes an author happier than knowing that their readers enjoyed the story.

In any case, Hiroto and the others have safely made it back to Japan, so I suppose they’ll be returning to their usual everyday lives. Well, I certainly hope they will.

…Will everything really be all right?

Putting that aside, one thing that often gives me a headache when writing this story is the characters’ backgrounds—in other words, how much of their personalities, upbringing, and surrounding circumstances I should reflect in the story.

Another thing is coming up with the characteristics and properties of the supernatural abilities possessed by the ability users.

In my case, I decide all of this information before I begin writing, and I never change it partway through.

I do this because, even though this is a fantasy story, I don’t want to sacrifice its sense of realism.

That said, since there’s no way to actually verify these things, I have no idea whether they really do contribute to the story’s realism.

Perhaps it’s simply a kind of personal policy of mine.

The characters who appeared in the second arc act and speak according to these principles.

This may sound strange, but sometimes when I reread my own novel and look at the characters’ dialogue, I find myself thinking, “Did I really write this?”

They’re lines that I wouldn’t have thought of myself at the time I’m rereading them.

When I think about it that way, I’m struck by the feeling that characters really do come alive.

Ah, apparently this is something that happens to other authors as well, so please don’t start looking at me like I’m strange.

Nothing has been decided about what comes next yet, but I sincerely look forward to meeting all of you again.

Finally, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at HJ Bunko’s editorial department, the sales staff, my editor in charge, S-san, and Karu-san, who, despite being extremely busy, always provides such wonderful illustrations.

I would also like to extend my utmost gratitude to all the readers who picked up this book and to everyone who has supported this story.

Thank you very, very much!

[TN: There is another short story after this in raws so I have posted it in same manner. Apologies for a long overdue in chapters and this volume. If you would like me to translate next volume do mention, I’ll buy the raws after I have some money. I don’t know. ]
