Chapter 30{Final Chapter}: Toward the Future
A few days later, I was summoned to the Adventurer’s Guild.
Just like last time, Raif was sitting across from me, adding sugar to his coffee.
“I really have to thank you for what happened this time.”
He bowed his head deeply- -very deeply.
“No, I only did what anyone should have done. If things had continued as they were, there would have been even more victims. Besides, there was no way I could have captured him alive.”
“No, I can’t blame you. From what you’ve told me, Neville had already reached a level of power that put him among the strongest mages in the world. Simply eliminating that threat was more than enough.”
I had already told Raif everything about the Neville incident: the existence of the true culprit, my battle with him, and his motives. Just as Raif had told me beforehand, in the end, the incident had been a manifestation of the darkness lurking within this magic-supremacist society.
“This is your reward. It may not be enough considering everything you’ve done.”
“Thank you.”
I took the sack of money. Inside were more gold coins than I had ever seen in my life.
“That really is a lot.”
“No, you’ve earned every bit of it. But even if you acquired enough money to last you a lifetime, I doubt you’d ever stop, would you?”
“No. The destination I’m aiming for has already been decided.”
That’s right.
Even if the world changed, that would never change.
My life would always be with the sword.
“Now, this is somewhat beside the point, but… You’re planning to leave the kingdom, aren’t you?”
“You surprised me. How did you know?”
We had already begun discussing moving. Luna and Riana had already gone to look at properties. I’d left all of that entirely in their hands.
“When you’ve seen as many adventurers as I have at the Adventurer’s Guild, you start to recognize certain things. Every now and then, someone appears who simply cannot fit within the confines of this kingdom.”
“I see.”
He wore a slightly melancholy expression.
“This incident will probably have a major impact on the various factions among the nobles. The moderate faction will likely lose some influence. Well, it probably has nothing to do with you, but there are still nobles who view swordsmen as enemies. Be careful.”
“I will. But no matter what obstacles stand in my way, I’ll simply cut them down with this sword.”
“That’s good to hear. I’ll be quietly rooting for you in whatever you do from here on.”
Raif extended his hand, and I shook it.
Perhaps I would never meet him again. Even so, I was sincerely glad that after coming to this world, I had been able to meet and interact with so many different people.
Even though this was a magic-supremacist society, that didn’t mean the entire world was rotten.
Surely, the future would move in a better direction.
At least, that was what I hoped.

“Ayame-san! Welcome home!”
“Welcome home, Ayame-san.”
The two of them greeted me when I returned. They had gone to the water-city of Acrim yesterday, so it had only been a day since we’d last seen each other.
“I’m home. How did the property search go?”
“We decided to buy a mansion!”
“I see. Oh, right. Here’s some additional funding.”
I handed Luna the gold coins Raif had given me.
““Huh…?””
Their voices overlapped.
Apparently, they were shocked by the sheer amount of gold.
“How much money is this, exactly?”
“Hmmm. Enough to last you through two lifetimes, perhaps?”
“Yeah, I figured. W-Well, I’ll make sure to manage the money properly. It was such an astronomical amount that I’m honestly trembling a little…”
Well, as long as we wouldn’t have to worry about money in the future, that was good enough.
And so, the three of us had dinner together.
As always, Luna’s cooking was excellent, and I was thoroughly satisfied.
“Ayame…”
“What is it, Riana?”
“What did Neville say at the very end?”
For the past few days, ever since the battle had ended, Riana had seemed like she wanted to ask me something.
So that’s what it was.
“He said that he was glad he’d been able to fight me.”
“Was he satisfied?”
“Yeah. Originally, he should have been made to atone for his crimes, but there was no other choice but to cut him down.”
“I… see. Ayame-san, you’re really strong. I want to become stronger too, and I’ll continue training with that determination.”
“Yeah. That’s right.”
There was a powerful determination in Riana’s eyes.
If it was her, I believed she could become even stronger.
“I-I will too! I’ll work hard so I can support you even better!”
“You’re already more than capable.”
“Even more! So I don’t get left behind by you, Ayame-san!”
“I see.”
I allowed a faint smile to appear on my face.
Throughout my entire life, I had hardly ever smiled. To master the sword, I had never felt the need to involve myself with other people any more than necessary.
But after coming to this world, that way of thinking was gradually changing.
There were things that could only come into existence through people connecting with one another.
I didn’t consider that a detour at all.
My meeting with Luna and Riana.
And the many more encounters that awaited me in the future.
Surely, the path ahead of me would open up into a world where I could continue pursuing mastery of the sword.
“Let’s continue to get along from here on out. Both of you.”
““Yes!””
Their cheerful voices rang out together.
A magic-supremacist world.
A distorted society where magic was considered supreme and swordsmen were looked down upon.
But I would continue living in this world.
