Noble Reincarnation-Chapter 142

Chapter 142: Behemoth

The golden bull, Behemot. [TN: From now on It will be Behemoth ベヒーモス (Behīmosu) and ベヘモト (Behemoto) Behemot. I have changed every prior mention from Behemoth to Behemot in all other chapters.]

When I first met the Thunder Prince Indra, it took a liking to me and “transferred” over to me.

The scene was exactly the same as when it “transferred” to me.

An expanse where there is neither heaven nor earth, only a flood of light.

In that space, I was facing the golden bull Behemot.

“It has been a long time since we met like this. What has happened?”

[Do you seek power?]

“…What do you mean?”

[Do you seek power?]

Behemot repeated the same words.

I hesitated.

What does he mean? What is he referring to?

[Did you not call for me?]

“Called for you?”

I became increasingly puzzled by what it meant.

[I was once regarded as the ‘Perfect Beast’ and was adored by all beasts.]

“—!!”

My confusion transformed into astonishment in an instant.

The phrase written in history, “the one adored by all beasts,” was actually so close to me.

[I will ask you again: Do you seek my power?]

“…Yes, I want it.”

[Then call my name. My true name.]

“…Lend me your power. Behemoth!”

The hesitation lasted only a moment.

I uttered the name of the one adored by all beasts – Behemoth.

In that moment, Behemot — Behemoth’s body transformed into light, overflowing and enveloping my own.

I closed my eyes momentarily due to the brightness, but the light quickly settled.

When I opened my eyes, I found Jerry before me, and I had returned to the original place.

I looked around.

The backyard, which was once barren, looked unchanged.

“What happened?”

“…Oh, it’s nothing.”

Jerry was puzzled only by my actions.

It must have been over a minute since I had been interacting with Behemot.

Normally, Jerry would have stopped or been dazed, or asked where I had gone.

The fact that he did not ask any such questions meant that my interaction with Behemot, like with Indra, had been an instantaneous event in the mental world.

Though it could have felt like a dream or a daydream, it wasn’t. A significant change was visible in the status in the corner of my vision.

Just like with Leviathan and Bahamut.

Thanks to welcoming Behemot, now Behemoth, the Light + had increased to S.

“…Jerry, is there anyone who can use status magic?”

“Huh? Uh, wait a moment.”

Jerry looked puzzled, as if caught in a fox’s trap, but he did not ask further and went to call a magician.

After a while, he returned with a young magician.

Whispering instructions into his ear, the young magician cast a spell on me with a tense expression.

It was a status open magic.

Instead of showing me a status only I could see, it displayed a status visible to others.

That status did not contain the “+” symbol.

However, it was a composite of the “+” notation I could see.

“—!!”

The magician gasped.

As I wondered what was wrong, I noticed his gaze fixated on the status labeled “Emperor of the Empire.”

“I said it before, but this is a secret. If you tell anyone, I’ll skin you alive.”

“Y-Yes!”

“Alright, go ahead.”

“Yes!”

As if he had received permission, the magician hurriedly left.

Then, Jerry looked at my status again.

“I’ve seen my Lord’s status for the first time, and it’s amazing!”

“Come to think of it, this is your first time, isn’t it?”

“Yeah.”

“Well then.”

I nodded.

Since becoming the Emperor, I haven’t shown my status to others much.

I’ve always been able to see it myself.

From the time I reincarnated as Noah as a baby to this day, it has always been in the corner of my vision.

I no longer feel any discomfort about it; rather, I would feel strange if it were to disappear.

That being said, Light’s status has risen three ranks, equal to the Behemoth’s level.

Of course, Jerry, seeing it for the first time, had no idea and didn’t mention it.

[Try to master this power.]

“…I see.”

The moment I finished checking the status, Behemoth urged me on.

His tone and voice weren’t much different from when he was Behemot.

It sounded like the deep voice of a middle-aged man shifted to that of the same person as a youth—a boy with a fresh, youthful face.

Behemoth’s power, like the first time I obtained Livyathan—or rather, Leviathan—details and methods on how to use the power flowed into my mind.

“It’s going to be somewhat challenging… but it should be fine.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“Open that cage for me.”

“Huh?”

Jerry was surprised.

Immediately after, he started to panic.

“No, no, no, my lord, this one is dangerous. Many people—”

“It doesn’t matter, do it.”

“—…Understood.”

Jerry, interrupted mid-sentence, stared at me for a moment before giving a small nod.

He approached the cage, took a key from his pocket, and dramatically inserted it into the large padlock.

I thought it was quite preparation from him but didn’t say anything.

Unlike the status magic, bringing me here likely meant he anticipated unlocking the cage as well.

Considering his previous reaction included, I thought Jerry was indeed quite the performer.

“…Coming now.”

“Yes.”

Nodding in response, Jerry unlocked the padlock and immediately jumped back.

The lock clicked open.

Unlike humans, the rabbit didn’t immediately know how to open the cage, but with the lock removed, the rabbit, while thrashing about, managed to naturally pry the entrance open.

From the opened entrance, the rabbit hesitantly poked its head out.

Then, it began to threaten us.

Raising its sharp, dull-colored fur even more, it bared its sharp fangs in warning.

“My lord.”

“Watch closely.”

I first drew Livyathan, the water magic sword.

Just as I readied myself, the rabbit lunged and bit at me.

I blocked it with the blade of my demon sword.

The rabbit’s fangs sank into it, and I could hear the sound of its fangs breaking instead.

The rabbit jumped back in surprise.

“Too slow.”

I stepped forward as if to chase it and unleashed a horizontal slash.

The blue-tinged slash cut the rabbit’s chest, causing a tremendous amount of blood to spray out.

“That’s amazing!”

With Jerry’s cheers behind me, I pressed further in.

I unleashed a series of strikes with the Livyathan.

Each slash hit, tearing through the rabbit’s body.

With each hit, blood splattered, and the rabbit let out a roar, becoming increasingly like a wounded beast.

Eventually, overwhelmed by accumulated damage, the rabbit was left gasping for breath, crouching down as if trying to make itself smaller.

As I approached—

“Watch out!”

Jerry called out, unable to contain himself.

Then, the rabbit, with a last-ditch effort, opened its eyes wide and lunged at me with tremendous force.

Had it been a few minutes ago, I would have dodged, but now there was no need.

I responded head-on.

Instead of the Livyathan in my right hand, I drew back my lightly clenched left fist.

My fist, radiating a golden light, became a body blow, piercing diagonally into the rabbit’s body.

The rabbit’s body bent at an extreme [く] shape, and moments later it lost strength and fell heavily to the ground.

Battle was concluded—Jerry, having assessed the situation, didn’t just let out a short cheer but carefully crafted his words.

“Amazing, truly amazing, my lord. You took it down all by yourself, even after it devoured so many others.”

“It was certainly strong. I guess that’s because it’s wild; it was stronger than most of the monsters managed by the Empire.”

“Wow, as expected from you.”

Jerry’s expression was filled with admiration.

However, the moment I realized that his awe might be somewhat acted was the very next instant.

The rabbit suddenly sprang back to its feet.

Jerry flinched for a moment, but I sheathed the Leviathan and stood still.

Instead of its earlier bloodshot eyes, the rabbit now had eyes clear like glass beads, and it lowered itself to nuzzle against me.

“W-what is this…”

“It seems it will now obey me.”

“!! No way… Are you telling me a monster can submit to an individual…? Incredible…”

Jerry was genuinely speechless, filled with admiration.

I was satisfied with the new power I had gained from the Behemoth.
