Ch-1-Ep-8: The Next Target

Black flames envelop five corpses. One of the five had a somewhat relieved expression on his face.

He confessed everything he knew. Seig coldly looked down at him as he burned away.

(So the goal was to assassinate Lord Harkim after all.)

Amidst the chaos of the battle with the dragon, they aimed to provoke the death of Count Harkim.

The first attempt seemed to fail due to a lack of preparation, and now they were determined to succeed, only to be thwarted by Seig.

(Still, the reasons for the assassination are rather foolish…)

There was practically no reason for Duke Davon, a powerful figure in the Holy Kingdom, to fear the already declining Count Harkim.

The assassination plot stemmed from purely personal motives.

Count Harkim had only one heir.

The boy, the same age as Luna, was quite skilled in both swordsmanship and magic, and he was highly regarded as a prospective hero.

And Duke Davon had a grandson of the same age as that boy. While he was also talented, it seemed he didn’t quite measure up to Count Harkim’s son.

Both would be attending the highest institution in the Holy Capital this fall.

Realizing he couldn’t compete for the top spot, Duke Davon devised a plan to eliminate the Count and force his son to inherit his title so that he could enroll without opposition.

Of course, it wasn’t merely a vain scheme. If that were all it was, he could simply target the son directly.

There were also intentions to become the guardian of Count Harkim’s son and manipulate him as he wished.

(Fall, huh… Yes, the timing is just right.)

Confirming that the five corpses had erased all traces, Seig drew a magic circle on the ground.

An ancient lost secret technique—teleportation magic’s formula.

The supreme sage “Mathis Lutius” had successfully replicated it in the modern era five years ago.

However, that was something he had never revealed to anyone—except for his most trusted friend.

The first time it was used was during the battle with the Demon King. At that time, Mathis had engraved the formula, and Seig merely activated it through his magic.

Over the past five years, Seig had deciphered the details of the teleportation magic from his legacy.

It was certainly not a convenient magic that allowed travel to any location.

One could only traverse to places where the formula had been engraved in advance.

During these five years, Seig had succeeded in engraving formulas for teleportation not only in the Holy Kingdom but also in other countries, allowing for transportation.

Setting the destination to his retreat, Seig activated the teleportation magic.

In the inner room of the retreat, there was Feri.

“Welcome back, Master.”

Seeing her bow respectfully in his exact same appearance, Seig couldn’t help but smirk. He removed her collar and swapped it with his own.

Feri returned to her original form and quickly donned her maid outfit.

(Why doesn’t she recreate the maid outfit?)

Her transformation magic allows her to resemble others, clothing included. He was hesitant to ask, but it seemed she had her own preferences.

While she changed, Seig shared the news about the assassination squad sent by Duke Davon during the discussion with the black dragon.

Feri was always informed of all necessary information. She filtered through the information and took appropriate action without being instructed.

“I will bring you the materials related to Duke Davon right away. Would you like to quench your thirst, Master?”

“Thank you. I’ll do that.”

After Feri left, Seig drank some water and found a moment of peace. Soon, she returned with a pile of documents. He received them and checked the contents.

“Yes, you picked out some good points.”

“He has committed too many misdeeds. Even just those highlighted would be enough to get the death penalty.”

As expected, she was excellent. At the same time, I felt anger turn to disbelief at the numerous wrongdoings committed by Duke Davon.

“It’s about time we had that old man exit the stage.”

One of the culprits who led my best friend to death.

For three whole years, it wasn’t just pushed away.

To push him, at the peak of his life, into the abyss.

Or perhaps to use him when it was convenient.

This timing was a perfect opportunity that applied to both reasons…
